What We Collect

Hikaya collects only the information you type into the story composer: your story theme, optional character names, and the listener's name. This text is sent to our server to generate your story and is not stored on our servers after the story is created.

We do not collect your name, email address, location, or contacts. We use TelemetryDeck, a privacy-first analytics service, to understand how features are used. TelemetryDeck does not collect personally identifiable information — all signals are cryptographically hashed and aggregated. No advertising trackers are used.

How Your Stories Are Stored

Generated stories — including audio narration and cover artwork — are saved on your device only, in your app's private storage. They are never uploaded to our servers or shared with third parties.

Stories are included in your iCloud device backup if you have iCloud Backup enabled in iOS Settings.

Third-Party Services

Hikaya uses the following third-party services:

• OpenAI — story text generation and cover artwork
• Google Gemini — voice narration
• TelemetryDeck — privacy-preserving usage analytics (no PII)

Your story theme, optional character name, and optional listener name are passed to the AI services solely to generate and personalize your story. No other personal information is shared. Each service is governed by its own privacy policy.

Children's Privacy

Hikaya is designed for use by parents and caregivers to create bedtime stories for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The child's name you optionally enter is used only to personalize the story text and is not stored on our servers.

Data Retention

We do not retain story content, themes, or names on our servers after a story has been generated. Cached story responses may be retained temporarily (up to 24 hours) to avoid redundant API calls for identical requests, after which they are deleted automatically.

Your Rights

Because we do not store personal data linked to you, there is no account to delete. All your stories can be removed at any time from within the app. Uninstalling the app permanently removes all locally stored stories from your device.
